Few things sting more than watching your Fantasy Premier League midfielder play a key role in a goal — and then getting zero points for it. Understanding the official FPL assist rules explains most of these frustrating cases.
TL;DR: FPL only awards an assist for a deliberate final pass or touch to a teammate who scores; deflections, rebounds, and won penalties usually earn nothing.
According to the official Fantasy Premier League scoring, an assist is credited when a player's final touch, pass, or deliberate action directly leads to a teammate scoring. The key word is deliberate. If a defender's deflection or a goalkeeper's parry is what really created the goal, no Fantasy Premier League points are awarded to anyone.
Assists are worth 3 points for most positions, but bonus points, clean sheets, and goals usually swing your gameweek far more. Many managers obsess over an assist while ignoring that a defender's clean sheet is quietly worth 4.
FPL points are provisional until the gameweek's bonus points are confirmed — usually a few hours after the final whistle. A pending assist can appear late, or a deflected one can be removed. Always refresh before blaming your luck.
