Few things sting more in Fantasy Premier League than watching your goalkeeper ship a 90th-minute goal — or worse, losing clean sheet points you thought were locked in. If you're asking "why did my player lose clean sheet points in FPL?" the answer usually comes down to minutes played.
TL;DR: A clean sheet counts only if your player completes 60+ minutes without conceding, and it's cancelled the moment the ball hits the net.
In FPL, clean sheet points are awarded to goalkeepers and defenders — but only if they are on the pitch for at least 60 minutes and their team concedes zero goals during the match.
If your defender is substituted at 58 minutes with the score at 0-0, and the team later concedes, they lose the clean sheet bonus. If they'd stayed past 60, they'd have banked the points before the goal arrived. This is the single most common cause of FPL heartbreak.
Many managers assume all eleven players earn clean sheet points. They don't. Only goalkeepers and defenders qualify for the standard clean sheet bonus — midfielders and forwards don't receive it (barring bonus points).
Goalkeepers also earn points for saves, so a busy night in a 0-0 can still be a huge haul. But one late consolation goal wipes the clean sheet entirely.
Target defenders and goalkeepers from sides with strong defensive records, and check minutes risk before deadline. Reliable 90-minute starters are worth their premium.
