If you've ever opened the Fantasy Premier League app and spotted double points next to one player, you're not seeing a glitch. Your fantasy captain scoring twice as much is the single most powerful lever in FPL, and it's entirely by design.
TL;DR: Your captain earns double points every gameweek — and a Triple Captain chip makes it three times.
Every gameweek you nominate a captain whose points are multiplied by two, plus a vice-captain who takes over if your skipper doesn't play a single minute. Pick the right armband and one big haul can swing your mini-league.
When you confirm your team before the deadline, tap the armband icon on your chosen player. From that moment, every point they earn is doubled.
A goal (usually 5 points for a forward, 6 for a midfielder) is worth double. Clean sheets, assists, bonus points — all multiplied by two. A defender who returns a goal, a clean sheet and maximum bonus can haul enormous totals.
Here's where the vice-captain matters. If your captain plays zero minutes, the armband passes to your vice-captain, whose points are then doubled instead. This is why experienced managers never waste the vice role — it's your insurance policy against a surprise benching or late injury.
Once per season you can play the Triple Captain chip, tripling your captain's total instead of doubling it. Save it for a double gameweek, when your captain plays twice, or a standout home fixture against struggling opposition. Used well, it wins seasons.
Captaincy is the biggest single decision in fantasy football. With so many managers owning the same elite players, the armband is where you separate from the pack.
