The difference between a wildcard and a free hit in FPL trips up even experienced managers. Both chips let you make unlimited transfers without the usual -4 point hits, but they behave very differently once the gameweek ends.
TL;DR: A wildcard permanently keeps your new squad; a free hit is temporary and reverts your team after one gameweek.
The wildcard is the most powerful chip in fantasy Premier League. Activate it and you can make as many transfers as you like, with no points deduction, and those changes stay for the rest of the season.
You get two wildcards every season — one in the first half and one after the December deadline. It's the tool for a full squad rebuild after a bad start, or for loading up on players with a great run of fixtures.
The free hit gives you unlimited transfers for one gameweek only. Your original squad is restored automatically once that gameweek ends.
It's the perfect chip for a blank or double gameweek, when some clubs don't play at all or play twice. You can field a full eleven of players who actually have fixtures, then snap straight back to your normal team.
A wildcard is a permanent rebuild. A free hit is a one-week loan of a completely different team. Use your wildcard when your season needs a reset, and save your free hit for the chaos of blanks and doubles.
