Timing is everything in fantasy football, and no chip rewards patience quite like the triple captain. Get it right and a single matchweek can launch you up your mini-league; get it wrong and you have wasted your most explosive weapon. The best time to use triple captain in FPL is almost always a double gameweek, when your chosen player has two fixtures instead of one.
TL;DR: Save your triple captain for a premium asset with two favourable fixtures in a double gameweek, ideally in the second half of the season.
Triple captain multiplies your captain's score by three rather than the usual two. That means every goal, assist and bonus point counts for 50% more than a normal armband. A player scoring, say, 6 points in a single match delivers 18 as a triple captain — but across two matches, the ceiling is far higher.
Double gameweeks usually appear when rearranged fixtures stack up, often from December onwards. This is when most elite managers deploy the chip.
Deploying the chip early in a single gameweek is rarely optimal, because you are tripling just one fixture. Fixture congestion also raises rotation risk, so check press conferences before committing. As Fantasy Premier League's official rules confirm, chips are limited, so treat each one carefully.
Many experienced managers hold the chip until the closing weeks, when relegation-threatened or title-chasing sides face generous run-ins. Comparing form and fixtures on PremierLeague.com helps identify the standout option.

Play the percentages: a double gameweek, a fit premium star, and favourable opponents.
